Introduction
Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi (IGRUA) is a flying training organization that was established on the 7th of November 1985 by the then Hon’ble Prime Minister of India, Late Capt. Rajiv Gandhi with a vision to train the youth of the nation to be good competent pilots. The Akademi functions under the Ministry of Civil Aviation (MoCA), Govt. of India (GOI) through its Governing Council (GC) IGRUA is an autonomous body under the control of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. IGRUA is situated in Fursatganj, Amethi, Uttar Pradesh.
IGRUA offers training for a Commercial Pilot License in which initially the cadets undergo Ground training after the completion of which the cadets are promoted to the Flying Operations Centre for the commencement of the second phase of their training i.e. Flying training. IGRUA also offers Crew Resource Management (CRM), Multi Crew Coordination (MCC), B.Sc. Aviation Degree and English level Proficiency (ELP) training and testing apart from CPL with Multi-engine (ME) endorsement and Instrument rating (IR). Before commencing their flying training on actual aircraft the cadets undergo synthetic flight training on DGCA-approved simulators. Cadets undergo rigorous training and discipline throughout their time spent in IGRUA. The training starts inside the hostel where the cadets must maintain a proper code of conduct and maintain the professional look required by an upcoming airline pilot.
Eligibility Criteria
- Minimum Age at the time of joining the course should be 17 years.
- Minimum qualification required is 10+2 or equivalent from a recognized board with Maths, Physics and English subject.
- Minimum 50% marks in English, Physics and Maths in each subject individually for General Candidates.
- Minimum 45% marks in English, Physics and Maths in each subject individually for SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidates.
- Should have valid class 2 medical.

Selection Procedure:
The exam conducting body is Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi, which is a National level exam conducted every year. The application fees is ₹12000 for General/OBC/EWS Candidates. No Fee for SC & ST Candidates. Total number of seats offered are 120. Cadets are required to undergo the following phases of examination-
- A Written Entrance Examination at various centres all over India (to filter the students based on basic academic knowledge)
- Pilot Aptitude Test (to judge the applicants on their hand and eye coordination)
- Interview conducted by an interview board (to judge the personality and enthusiasm of the applicants)
A list is then prepared based on the merit in the written exam and the cadets are shortlisted accordingly, then the selected candidates are called for Pilot Aptitude Test and Interview which is conducted on same day. Candidates are shortlisted and called in batches for joining. As per GOI guidelines a portion of total seats are reserved for SC/ST/OBC/EWS categories of candidates.
Written Examination-
IGRUA written examination is a 120-minute long examination that will be held at various centers across the country in all major cities covering all Indian States and Union Territories subject to the availability of sufficient candidates at respective centers. The exam is conducted on General English, Maths, Physics, Reasoning (10+2 standard), and Current Affairs. The mode of this examination is online and the types of questions asked are objective. Total 100 questions are asked and no negative marking is done for incorrect answers. The language of this examination is English.

Interview-
This is a panel interview where the applicant is judged on the personality and the representation of oneself in a formal setup. They are also questioned on the basic knowledge of the applicant on the academic front and basic general knowledge along with current affairs.
The shortlisted candidates will be required to produce the following documents in originals plus a photocopy of each document at the time of the interview.
- Date of BirthProof like 10th Class certificate.
- 10th Mark sheet.
- 10+2 Mark sheet.
- Caste Certificate for SC/ST/OBC Candidates.
- A Certificate of OBC Candidate from the competent Authority that he/she does not belong to the Creamy layer.
- A Certificate of EWS category from an officer not below the rank of Tehsildar that the candidate falls under
- Admit Card of Written Test.
Pilot Aptitude Test-
Only successful candidates in Pilot Aptitude / WOMBAT shall qualify for final selection. It is a test on a computer setup that judges the ability of the applicant to simultaneously use their eye and hand to carry out adequate actions. The examiner will give you a handbook 15 min prior to read in which every task will be explained. Then you need to perform accordingly and score above 70%. The exam tests the candidate’s situational awareness and motor skills. The minimum qualifying criteria will not be lowered for SC/ST/EWS/OBC Candidates in the Pilot Aptitude/WOMBAT test.
Fee Structure
Selected Candidates will be required to pay commitment money of Rs. 3 Lacs which will be non-refundable but adjustable against the total fee to secure their seats within 3 weeks of the declaration of the final result.
The total fee charged is INR 50 Lacs . There is no other subsidy or relaxation in training fee available to any candidate including SC,ST, OBC and EWS. The fees will be submitted in four installments (around 11,25,000 each).
